The Competitive Pathway
BMX has a clear progression from club racing right through to the Olympics. Start at your level and go as far as you want.
Club Races
No license neededThe starting point. Mini races run by Runnymede Rockets โ perfect for learning race format in a friendly environment.
Regional Racing (Novice)
No license neededStep up to regional competition in the novice category. Races against riders from clubs across the region.
Regional Racing (Expert)
British Cycling license requiredCompetitive regional racing for experienced riders. Requires a BC race license.
National Racing
BC license + one season regionalEight rounds across the UK. Requires completing a season of regional racing first.
British Championships
BC license + 5 Summer Regional roundsThe pinnacle of domestic BMX racing. Requires completing 5 rounds of the Summer Regional Series.
European & World Championships
BC license + national qualificationOne event each per year. Qualification through national series results.
Olympic Games
Full national team selectionHeld every 4 years. Next edition: Los Angeles 2028.
British Cycling Licensing
For anything beyond novice regional racing you'll need a British Cycling race license. These can be obtained through the British Cycling website. Runnymede Rockets is a registered BC club.
